For those of you curious about the Canadiana Chocolate Bar I spoke about in the The Laziest Vegans In The World interview – you can purchase it HERE.
You are probably thinking “why would I pay $4 for a chocolate bar?” … because that’s what I thought when Gerry suggested we try it but am I ever glad he pressed the point because this chocolate bar is incroyable!!
Dark chocolate sweetened with maple syrup and has sun-dried apples and smoked SALT!! Oooooh my mouth is watering already. Buy one. Your tastebuds will thank you. ๐
Ahhhh. I’ve been so lax about the Fergus365 because Dexter takes up SO MUCH of my time!!! It’s exhaustingรย ๐ but rewarding.รย ๐
We’re still working on him not “marking” in the house. He’s doing better but I have to keep a constant eye on him … the second he’s out of my sight he “marks”.รย He won’t “mark” if I’m around so I’ve been hiding behind doors and walls in the hopes I can catch him and correct his behaviour.
It’s exhausting to have to make sure he’s with me every second of the day. It’s been really difficult to get things done around the house but now when I have something to do that requires my attention (like take bathe or make dinner) I stick him in the crate (he’s so good in there) and that lets me get my work done. It’s a real drag that he can’t be unsupervised without a diaper. I’m hoping this will change over time … but if you have any advice I would love to hear it.รย ๐
As for his lunging at strangers, bikes and skateboards it is SO bad that I felt that I was never going to get a handle on it until Robert on Facebook suggested:
“A wooden cooking spoon and peanut butter. It looks weird at first but works like a charm. While walking the little guy whenever you see another dog just stick the spoon with the peanut butter in front of his nose and keep walking. Eventually you will be able to just hold the spoon in your hand and have him looking up while passing other dogs. No corrections, no tugging on the leash, no stress for both you and the little guy, just plain peanut butter goodness and who can say no to that?“
I didn’t have any peanut butter in my house so I thought about what Dexter is obsessed with and he can’t get enough of his tiny squeaker monkey. In fact it makes him so mental that I have to restrict his play time with it …
So now when we go for a walk I carry the monkey and whenever he starts to become interested in a bike or skateboard, etc I squeak the monkey and his attention is directed towards me and the monkey instead. IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!
Last night we walked by a group of people (one on a skateboard) and Dexter barely even looked at them. Huzzah!
Dexter is such a good boy … I hope we don’t have a hard time finding him a home. He needs a strong assertive person with lots of dog experience to handle all this crazy.รย ๐
Tomorrow he and Fergus are going in for hair-cuts at Top-Dog. I can’t wait to see how they look all shampooed and groomed.รย ๐
I am SO excited to show you these heart measuring spoons I just got in stock!! These heavy guage metal handcrafted heart shaped measuring spoons by the Beehive Kitchenware Co. make my jaded heart sing with joy!!
They are so adorable that I even had them tattoo’d on my arm so now I’ll never forget how many tsp are in a tbsp.รย ๐
And check out the Coffee Spoon I also have in stock.
Nothing says “I love you – after you’ve had a few cups of coffee…” like a heart shaped coffee spoon. ๐
I’m a huge music fan and I have a deep affection for album cover art.
I fell in love with music early on … probably because my Dad was always playing music in the house. I would lay on the floor in my Dad’s den and put on The Beatles, Miles Davis, etc and search the album cover (and liners) for information about what I was listening too.
As I grew older (and started to buy my own albums) the ritual was the same. I would lay on the floor and listen to the album (in it’s entirety) and look at the album cover for secrets. Sometimes it would be a “thank you” to a producer I read about on another album. Sometimes there was a secret message etched into the vinyl with a cryptic inside joke that I would never understand.
Holding a 12×12 piece of album art while I listen to the music is a ritual of the past … so the 2011 GoVegan Calendar is my love letter to the lost art of album covers. Vegan style!! ๐
My tastes run pretty obscure so I tried to choose iconic album covers for the 2011 Calendar that everyone would know … what I didn’t anticipate was that so many of my friends (under 40) wouldn’t have a clue what half these covers are that we’re paying homage too. Oh dear … if that doesn’t make you feel old. I don’t know what will.รย ๐
January starts with a veganized version of the Supertramp cover Breakfast in America. I’m not really a fan of Supertramp but being the thrift-store junkie that I am … you ALWAYS see this album cover in the bins. It’s a really cool album cover … if you look closely (click on photo for bigger version) at Manhattan in the background it’s made up of items from a diner like coffee cups, egg cartons, salt and pepper shakers, etc.
We tried to replicate the same thing by using my cookbooks and items from my kitchen, etc (notice the Knight Rider lunchbox?). It took a lot of re-shoots to get the city-scape right but Rudee (as usual) did a bang-up job with all the graphics.
The hardest part of this photo was holding up a glass of orange juice … Oy vey. I had to hold it at a certain angle to mimic the waitress (who is mimicking the statue of liberty) plus try and look cute at the same time. My arm was sore for 3 days after. *laugh* I guess it’s time to hit the gym.
The first lyrics for Breakfast in America are “Take a look at my girlfreind. She’s the only one I got…” and since the album is called Breakfast in America I decided to re-write the lyrics to be about pancakes.
The recipe for January is for Banana Pecan Pancakes … and they are delish!! “Take a look at my pancakes. They’re the only one’s I got…” ๐
