Veg News apology
Now this is the kind of apology I can get behind. Nicely done VegNews … 🙂
April 18, 2011
Dear VegNews Community, We screwed up.
With regard to our use of symbolic imagery in VegNews, our readers got it right. We wholeheartedly apologize. We assure you that we will never again use non-vegan photographs in VegNews. Here’s our commitment to you:
•   Recipes in VegNews will be represented only by custom vegan photography. Count on it.
•   All stock images used in the magazine and website will be vegan. We will make sure so that you can be sure.
•   VegNews will build and host a vegan photo bank to assure the availability of vegan stock images. Look for details in the coming days.We thank everyone for the invaluable feedback on this critical issue. We exist only to serve you and the vegan cause, and are grateful that you care so passionately about our work. The VegNews team is committed to restoring the trust we have earned for eleven years.

Check it out here! 🙂
Nevermind …
Purple shoes are now gone (that was fast) but I still have lots of other colours!! 🙂
Do-Ni
Squeeee! I srsly love my new Do-Ni ballet flats. My feet have never felt fancier. 🙂
They were a little tight at first so I wore them around the house for a week with a big pair of socks on (to help break them in) and now they fit my tootsies perfectly.
This is the Amethyst pair … the colour doesn’t show up well in photos but they sure are pretty. I only have ONE pair of Amethyst in a size 9. You better pounce on it because once it’s gone … it’s gone. 🙂
I also have other colours/sizes in stock. Check them out HERE.
London VX
This will be my ONLY official book signing in London so tell your friends and bring your neighbours!
See you all at VX soon! 🙂
Sad…
This whole VegNewsGate has got me really bummed.
Our amazing vegan community is ripe with talent so why would you not use your platform to celebrate those talented friends. Bah … 🙁
In other news … let’s look at some real vegan food porn shall we? All the food photos below were prepared/styled using vegan ingredients and were photographed by a vegan photographer.
VegNewsGate
VegNews issued a statement regarding VegNewsGate … what do you think?
This is how I feel about it 😐
April 14, 2011
Dear VegNews Readers:
The entire VegNews family is deeply saddened with the dialogue that has transpired over the last 12 hours. As an ethical vegan magazine, owned-and-operated by vegans since its inception, VegNews is a labor of love, totally motivated by our dedication to ending animal suffering. Please understand the following:—VegNews is a privately owned, independent publication with no funding or investors. Publishing a magazine is extremely costly—with exorbitant costs for printing, postage, paper, and production. In fact, the majority of independent magazines fold within three years. Eleven years ago, we recognized the power of the media in spreading a compassionate message that vitally needed to be heard, and committed to producing a vegan magazine that could compete with mainstream publications.
—Eleven years later, we are proud to say that VegNews has won numerous major magazine awards, sits on the newsstand next to titles such as O, The Oprah Magazine and Martha Stewart Living, and is fulfilling its mission of packaging veganism in an appealing and accessible way so that we can reach as many people as possible. Through our family of properties, we now reach more than 1 million readers each month.
—Yes, from time to time, after exhausting all options, we have resorted to using stock photography that may or may not be vegan. In an ideal world we would use custom-shot photography for every spread, but it is simply not financially feasible for VegNews at this time. In those rare times that we use an image that isn’t vegan, our entire (vegan) staff weighs in on whether or not it’s appropriate. It is industry standard to use stock photography in magazines—and, sadly, there are very few specifically vegan images offered by stock companies. In addition, it’s exceedingly challenging to find non-stock imagery that meets the standard necessary for publication. We would love nothing more than to use only vegan photography shot by vegan photographers, and we hope to be there soon.
At VegNews, we are working hard to change the world for the better, and do whatever we can within our means to make that happen. We deeply appreciate your years of readership and support, and look forward to working together to create a more compassionate future.
With gratitude,
The VegNews Team
VegNews is putting MEAT into vegan issues??
I woke up at 6am from a bad dream and couldn’t get back to sleep… So I grabbed my iPad and pulled the bed covers over my head – as to not rouse the snoring husband with the glaring light that is iPad.
After checking my e-mail – I surfed over to my facebook page and noticed that Randy had posted a new QuarryGirl article about VegNews which is titled “VegNews is putting MEAT into vegan issues“.
Curious I clicked on the link and was gobsmacked at what I was reading … I actually thought I was dreaming for a second.
The article exposes the fact that VegNews has been using stock photos of meat dishes and presenting them as vegan dishes.
Seriously? What kind of fuckery is this?
One person commented on the QuarryGirl story that it was like “looking at a nudie magazine and then being told that the model was underage.†The whole thing is just gross. 🙁
Such poor judgement on their part. I would encourage VegNews to issue a full apology (sans any excuses) and vow to support their community by using vegan food photographers from this moment on.
BTW. All of the photos in How It All Vegan (10th anniversary edition) were prepared, styled and photographed by me. 🙂
