Letter of the day…

This completely flattened me. ๐Ÿ™

Hi Sarah,
I have your books and enjoy them, thanks muchos!!
.
I just wanted to voice my complete shock with the LIMITED information on your app that I paid 4.99$ for, to add I normally neeeeeever pay for apps.
.
I figured since it was a 5$ app, one of the most expensive out there, that it would provide me an number of recipes and ways to search for them.ร‚ย  In search I typed couscous and didn’t get a singel (sic) recipe, eggpland (sic) I was provided with one?
.
I find with the expanse of your products the prices have gone way up and I am sensing a hint of greed.ร‚ย  I have downloaded other free apps that are a great deal more helpful, resourceful and contain much more info than yours.
.
On your app thereร‚ย isร‚ย a section informing of as to how we can buy your books, buy your products, learn about you?ร‚ย  If you’re promoting a vegan lifestyle why not incldue (sic) more recipes, some vegan facts and stats?
.
I commend your vegan efforts and the work you do, I just feel it’s getting a bit egocentric and less about the food.
Thanks – D.
.

Normally I don’t respond to jerks but …

Dear D,
I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the app. As with all my books/products I poured my heart and soul into the app.
.
I personally shot/styled all 55+ recipe photographs you see in the app. My husband and I shot/styled all the “how to” videos and I edited them myself.
This took hundreds of hours of work. I also worked night and day with my publisher and the app builder to make the Go Vegan w/Sarah Kramer cooking app easy to navigate, easy on the eyes and fun to use.
.
I am shocked that you don’t see the love and care I put into my books/products but I guess if you don’t see value in the hundreds of hours I logged working on this app you probably think Jackson Pollock was just making a mess on the floor.
.
I want to let you know that I am so hurt that you use the word GREEDY as a description. ๐Ÿ™
.
Everything I have done from How It All Vegan, Garden of Vegan, La Dolce Vegan, Vegan A Go-Go, my Go Vegan Calendars all the way through to this new app have been a labour of love. In fact I occasionally lose money or take a smaller cut so we can add extra goodies to the product in a meaningful way.
.
I’ve sent you a paypal refund to show you that I am not “greedy”. I hope you will take this $4.99 refund and use it for something worthwhile. Perhaps a book on 101 ways to cook couscous with eggplant.
Thanks for ruining my day.
xoxo

What a jerk! I love your app! There are always going to be haters out there.. don’t let them ruin your day. You are awesome! I (shamefully must admit) am not vegan. I will be one day though, and all of your products (books and app) have led me in this direction. I think you are an amazing and passionate person whom I have always admired. I strive to walk your path, one day!! Sending much love to you today! XOXO

  2. “Thanks muchos”?

Blech. People are jerks online. That doesn’t make it hurt any less, though. *Gives hairy eyeball to said jerk*

  3. Sarah, you are amazing! Sounds like that person really had nothing better to do than moan and complain. How sad for them.

  4. Jen says:

I’d pay $4.99 just to have read the last paragraph of your response! Well played on your part! Jerk.

  5. Maria says:

Jesus. Is the guy so damn dumb that he doesn’t get that apps produced by corporations or even smallish companies are going to be qualitatively different that one produced by a person who writes cookbooks?

I can only imagine how much time and effort it takes for a small operation like yours to put together something this complex.

Sarah, please don’t let the assholes get you down. The man is clueless and his opinion worthless. As soon as I get something that I run the app on, I’m planning on buying your app!

    Love you,
    Maria

  6. jas faulkner says:

I don’t do apps, but I own (and love) most of your cookbooks.

So let me get this straight…there are over 55 recipes with illustrations on this app and yet he’s not happy? ::sigh:: You can’t please everybody. And I am assuming, since this is an app, that it will be occasionally updated? So, um, why not politely ask for couscous recipes in a future version?

    ::shaking my head…::

  7. Sarah says:

Don’t waste your precious energy on stupid people Sarah. Haters gonna hate.

  8. Jena says:

You are a class act — coming and going. (People that pretentious really should learn how to spell. ) I have a few vegan apps and cookbooks and yours are the only ones that I keep going back to. At 4.99 the app is a steal, and I have recommended it to my vegan friends. One of them bought the app just on the basis of your picture. Love you and everything that you do !

  9. Sam says:

I just have this image of you as Scrooge McDuck, swimming in your pool of silver dollars. Does that person have any idea how much it takes to make an app? Apple charges us .99$ for an app because they already made you buy a $300+ phone. You on the other hand are an individual, who needs to make a living like the rest of us. And please, $5 is nothing. It’s a cup of foo foo coffee. It’s the price of one organic mango at Whole Foods. Your last comment to him was brilliant. Most vegans don’t need a recipe on how to make couscous with eggplant. We look to people like you to show us how to make things that a 6 year old couldn’t already figure out. <3 you, Sarah.

  10. Sarawen says:

    Holy MoFo!!

Sarah, I’m so sorry that this asshat ruined your day. You are amazing and this person sounds like they are complaining just because they paid a whole $4.99 for an app. Sheesh.

That was a super-classy reply you sent back. Hope your day becomes better! *hugs*

    Love, Sara

  11. Melissa says:

Perhaps the person didn’t get the recipes they wanted because they spelled eggplant incorrectly? Just saying… ; )

  12. Heather says:

I wish I told you this before today… Your app is beautiful, helpful and I apperciate that you took much care and time to create it. I think we often forget to tell people thank you. We live in selfish times and tend to only complain or tell people how unhappy we are. The gentelmen that left that comment for you today may need a refresher in some manners. I recently fould a great list I printed out for our household her is a link… I hope your friend prints it out and puts it on his fridge.

  13. Sarah says:

    Sarah….

Ya…that would hurt, but seriously, dicks that hide behind their computers who write terrible, idiotic and senseless letters to whom obviously is a talented, classy, well versed and educated women such as yourself…..well, he/she was looking to get their measly $5 back.

Instead of buying a book on learning how to SPELL, the jerk is probably going to buy more One Direction songs to add to their bad music collection, or bad dye job, or bad bad.. you get where I’m going ๐Ÿ˜‰ ……

Don’t give it another thought…..you’ve got awesome on your side!

  14. Naomi says:

As part owner of a company that builds mobile apps, I have a pretty first hand idea of the amount of real work time that goes into building a mobile app, and those are ones without videos included.

In my opinion, your app is awesome, in fact when I bought it I showed it to all the developers here, and I never once thought it was priced too high at $4.99. It was a bargain and I love all of it.

  15. isachandra says:

I got a shitty email today, too. Must be something in the air. ::shake it off::

  16. Kolina says:

What an effing douchecanoe. You’re awesome <3

  17. Matty Conrad says:

Oh sweet Queen of the Vegans ( and one of my favourite people on earth)

This is a topic so near and dear to my heart (as one who’s very soul is poured out into the projects he creates) and I have come to one very simple conclusion.

Opinions are like assholes for the following reasons:

    1)Everyone has one
2)Everyone thinks that theirs is the most special
3)It is easily “voiced” while sitting alone at a keyboard loud and proud, but when right in front of another person it’s usually stifled
    4) Some peoples just stink
    5) Almost everyone would rather not hear yours cause it’s likely going to be shitty.

In closing, despite my tendency to eat four legged animals I am going to rush right out and purchase several copies of your app maybe I’ll give them out as christmas presents).

    Love love love
    Matty

  18. Isa and Sarah…I got a shitty email today too! I feel wronged and misunderstood and it pushes ALL my buttons dating back to CHILDHOOD. I am trying to regain a sense of zen and letting go about it. Not there yet.

  19. Sara G says:

Hi friend. I’ve always been chicken to write to you in any way because I’m kind of shy and tend to watch from the sidelines but after reading this last post I felt compelled to reach out to you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am not a vegan at all or even a vegetarian for that matter but I follow your blog religiously and I have all of your books. (after checking them out at the library numerous times I figured I should just go ahead an buy them.) ๐Ÿ˜‰ I just want you to know that I think you are the coolest and whoever wrote that post is a super douchebag and they obviously don’t know you at all. I also want to tell you that I admire you for kicking your cancer in the ass and to keep doing whatever you are doing. ๐Ÿ™‚ I just lost my aunt to cancer this morning. She had been battling it for 10 years and she gave a good fight. I always enjoy reading your blog and taking a peek into your life and can totally and completely see all the love you have put into your books and various other projects so just remember that when people like “D” write bullshit like that to you. I love you Sarah Kramer!!!!! You rock sister! From Sara G in Missouri! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Sarah says:

      Sara!!
Thank you for writing. My heart broke when I read about your Aunt. ๐Ÿ™

Lots of love to you and your family from me!!! xoxoxo

  20. Jennifer says:

The full moon this week brought out a lot of emotions and stupid behaviours in people…not that it’s an excuse for being a douche. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love your books and I’m sending you the bestest healing vibes I can muster. xo

  21. Emily Donner says:

Brush that right off your shoulder, Sarah.
Ain’t nobody got time for that.

    Xoxoxo, Emily

  22. Steve Simitzis says:

I didn’t realize you had an app, I just bought and downloaded a copy. Couldn’t find any eggpland recipes but these muffins are looking pretty good.

  23. Magenta says:

Don’t let anyone steal your peace.

  24. Kelly says:

Some people are only brave when they’re behind the keyboard. Don’t let cowards like this get you down.

  25. Nicole says:

thank you for making my day with your hilarious comment. the ‘jackson pollack’ poke was particularly hysterical. ^^
