Album covers …

I was downloading some music from itunes today and it felt kind of hollow. Disposable almost. I miss looking at the art work on album covers and having something to hold in my hands.

Cd covers are so small and digital downloads of covers are just silly. It got me thinking about some of my favourite album covers. What are some of yours?

Oh gosh, do you remember my Earthbound blog? I had posted "the top 150 album covers of all-time" I wish I hadn't deleted that!

Joni Mitchell's covers were great. I also still have a fond place in my heart for Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album and Rumours.

SLEATER-KINNEY have some of my favourite covers, especially the earlier albums (actually I really like The Hot Rock cover where they're flagging-down a cab).

ART BRUT's are good too. Their new record "Art Brut vs. Satan" was done by comic artist/writer Jeff Lemire.

In recent memory, WE ARE SCIENTISTS' first LP "In Love and Squalor" had kittens on it.

This list could be the death of me, so I'll close it with two of my current listening picks:

    1. THEE OH SEES – "HELP" …it's a big purple bat with a rainbow. Sure doesn't get much more awesome than that.

    2. WOODS – "SONGS OF SHAME" …this sleeve looks like a crumpled picture from someone's pocket with eye balls cut-out from magazines and glued to it. The cover alone isn't that "epic," but every track is. Whether it's 6am or 11pm, I keep coming back to this LP.

    turtle power!
