I have this weird childhood superstition thing about banana peels. When I see a peel on ground outside – it’s bad luck. If I see another banana peel some time during the day it cancels out the bad luck and I’m back to neutral.
I was just walking the dog and saw a peel on the ground and thought “oh shit. bad luck“. 2 steps later I saw another peel and was instantly awash with relief.
I’m 40 years old!! *laugh*
Enough already.
What childhood superstitions do you still carry around?
I don’t step on sidewalk cracks. Why I don’t know. lol.

I can’t sleep with my foot or arm hanging off the side of the bed…I totally get the creeps and think something under the bed will grab me, even though I am an adult and I know there is nothing under there.
I can’t walk on the grates in the sidewalks. my hubby told me years and years ago that there were san-eating clowns under there, and now, at 24, I still don’t walk on them. I’d like to think it’s just out of habit, but why take the chance!

You should carry around an extra banana peel just in case! I’m still scared of Bloody Mary, I won’t stand in front of a mirror in the dark.
If I watched a really scary movie, or am in bed by myself and am afraid, I cocoon myself in my blanket and make a little air hole. The rationality being that if I can’t see you then you can’t see me so no bad things will get me then. I did this once as a kid and had pushed myself in between the wall and my bed frame and my parents actually thought I was gone, haha! I guess that’s why I still feel “safe” hiding under the blanket.
It bothers me to look into mirrors in the dark because of Bloody Mary.
I occasionally catch myself avoiding stepping on cracks on the sidewalk.
I also have a fear of letting my feet or arms hang over the side of the bed… and I try not to step on sidewalk cracks or walk under ladders.
OMG. I am so with Kate. I just know that there is somethng under the bed and that if any part of my body hangs over it will be yanked and taken away to the depths of hell.
*shakes off the bad feeling*
And I am close to 50…what is wrong with me?
I am afraid to drive down a road where there is water on both sides of the road. When I was a little girl I had nightmares about that. And when I told my mother, she told me that she had the very same nightmares when she was a child. Weird, but true…..
When I was very little I thought my cat had been secretly turned into a robot and it really creeped me out. Sometimes, only infrequently, I still think just maybe my cats have been turned into robots. I don’t think that’s superstitious as much as it is crazy.
