Took Fergus to the vet for his annual check-up … gosh he’s cool as a cucumber when we’re there. No whining or worry. He just says hi to everyone and then finds a place to relax.
I think it says a lot about the way he is treated at Kindred Spirits vet hospital. Even when they’re poking his bum and draining his anal glands – he’s like “whatever dudes“. I think the treats and praise he gets from the staff after the anal probe probably make up for any discomfort. 🙂
BTW. I read this great book excerpt about a childless (by choice) woman like myself and her experience with her dog (you can read it HERE) and it echoed my story so much … I gotta quote the last paragraph because it’s exactly how I feel. 🙂
We’ve had Rose a year now, and there has never been a cold and rainy night when I’ve resented having to take her outside. I have never wished I didn’t have a dog, while she sniffed at each individual blade of grass, even as my hands were freezing up around the leash. I imagine there are people out there who got a dog when what they wanted was a baby, but I wonder if there aren’t other people who had a baby when all they really needed was a dog.
Anyhoo … I digress…
I was very pleased to hear from the vet that Fergus is doing great. For a dog that’s 9 years old this year he still has the spirit and physicality of a puppy. His eyes and ears are clear, joints, muscles, knees are great … if only his anal glands would follow suit he’d be a perfect dog. The vet also praised all the exercise we give Fergus (she sees a lot of fat/sick dogs who get little to no exercise or mental stimulation) and it made me happy to know that all this loving hard work we put into Fergus’s well being is giving him a healthy longevity. YAY!
How did we celebrate? By taking a long walk on the beach!! Gosh we’ve been having a nice January so far … Still lots of clouds hanging around but it was warm enough that I could walk the beach without a jacket. Woot!
On Saturday I had my windows open and the breeze was warm. Oh it was a beauty of a day.
With all this nice weather it’s going to be hard to leave in a few weeks for our holiday in Maui… on second thought. No it’s not. 🙂
