Went and saw a free screening of Inglourious Basterds last night and I thought it was great. I didn’t want it to end!! What I love about Quentin is the amount of tension he can inspire with a well crafted conversation between characters. I think he’s brilliant … and while the violence in the movie is hard for someone squeamish like me to watch … what I appreciate is that it’s not in the movie (in any of his movies) to be gratuitousness, it’s there for a reason and I appreciate that. I give it 10 out of 10 swastikas carved onto Nazi foreheads!!
Anyhoo … on the way to the movie I drove through downtown to pick up Gerry from work and I stopped in my tracks when I saw that a new AA store is opening. My heart sunk.
Johnson Street in Victoria has always been an eclectic mixture of local, independent boutique shops. A few years ago MEC moved in (they are a big BC owned business) and then Luluelemon (another big BC owned company) but now with the arrival of the AA store … I fear that all the charm and local independent loveliness of this street is doomed.
We’ll see how it goes … death watch 2009 for LoJo (lower Johnson) is now in effect.
