A message from Dexter
We transferred Dexter over to New Daddy’s house and it went seamlessly. He trotted right into the house without a care in the world. π
But before he left – he recorded this message to all of you who have supported us the last 4 months.ΓΒ
2011 GoVegan Calendar Γ’β¬β APRIL
In 1977 (the year before I discovered punk-rock) I was obsessed with KISS.
The theatrics. The make-up. The tongue. Paul Stanley’s eyebrows! The over the top EVERYTHING!!
I mean … what more could a 10 year old girl want in a band? Well, I wanted to see them play live.
Kiss was scheduled to perform their Love Gun tour (I had no idea what that meant) in Regina on Aug 3rd 1977 and I wanted to go SO badly.
During Buffalo Days (a city-wide summer celebration) my Mum and I were at the Exhibition walking through the mid-way checking out the rides and going to the freak-shows (yes … they still had freak-shows in the 70’s) and after I saw the worlds-largest-horse and the worlds-smallest-man I saw a giant poster advertising that KISS was going to be playing at The Ex.
I begged my Mum to take me. I don’t think she said no. In fact I’m pretty sure she said yes … but I never did end up going to the show. Maybe she decided that a Knights in Satan’s Service concert was not an appropriate the show for a 9 year old girl.ΓΒ π
I’m sad to say that I’ve still never seen them live… Even though watching Gene Simmons on his reality show has soured the KISS brand for me they’re still pretty high up there on my “bucket list” of bands to see – I still really dig listening to my old vinyl.
This photoshoot was a lot of work. Each face took me over an hourΓΒ to do (I did all the styling for the calendar myself) and I think we shot them one at a time over the course of a week. I know how litigious Gene can be about his brand so I was very careful to pay homage to the band without doing a full copy of the album cover and I also wanted the faces to reflect food since I changed the band name to FRESH and the album is called N-TASTY.
I tried to may my Paul lips look like a strawberry but I once I put all the little seeds on my lips it looked like I had cold-sores or something *laugh* so I changed it to a tomato. The Demon is supposed to be a Kale Demon. Hee Hee. CatMan was turned into RabbitWoman for this photo, I even gave myself a dangling baby-carrot earring. And lastly, since we were going with a veggie/garden theme I turned Space Ace into a Space Flower Child.
The recipe for this month is Beth’s Fresh and Fancy Raw-Slaw and I have to say that it’s one of my all time favourite recipes in the world. In fact – I made it for dinner last night. It’s super easy to make (especially if you have a food processor with a grater attachment) and it’s always a hit when I bring it to pot-lucks.
Lastly – for the calendar blub I messed a little with lyrics of the song Loving You … I think I made the double entendre dirty enough to make Paul proud. Don’t you?ΓΒ π
“I was made for gardening baby. You were made for planting seeds. I can’t get enough of your garden. Can you get enough to eat?”

SARAH
Hey everyone!
April 30th is coming quick, and of course we want an awesome poster to promote the event. If youΓ’β¬β’re artistically inclined and have an idea, please let me know by the end of the week!Ideally, it would be done on the digital medium, but hand-drawn could work as well. Sarah Kramer and FoA have put up prizes for the winner, a 2011 Go Vegan Calendar from Sarah, and an FoA book of your choice (Dining With Friends, On Their Own Terms, etc…)
Here are some of the poster designs from other bake sales last year to help get the creativity flowing, including our own of course.
Looking forward to seeing your creations! =)

Gifty-Gifts
I was racking my brain as to what to get Gerry for our 15th wedding anniversary and my buddy Barbe gave me the idea to make a photo book.
She knows I’m a chronic photo taker so it was a genius idea! π

I went through our hard-copy photos and scanned them. Went through hundreds of CDR’s labeled “miscellaneous photos” (I really need a better photo filling system) π and put them in chronological order (sort of) and made a BLURB Book.
So now we can flip the pages and watch us go from young and skinny to older and mushy.

It’s so cool to see all the different incarnations of ourselves over the years in one book …

I also comissioned my friend Gareth of Perogy Cat fame to draw our wedding photo. I was never happy with our wedding pictures (we eloped to Vegas and purchased the photography package but it was a little lacking in style) so Gareth’s reinterpretation of that moment makes my heart swell because now I can look at it and remember the feeling of that moment instead of nit-picking the photo. *laugh*

Gosh – I’m feeling all mushy and full of love for my hubby today.
Maybe tonight after dinner I’ll make him hook up the VCR and we can watch the wedding video. The Elvis impersonator had a lisp…It’s hysterical! π
Melt with you…
15 years ago today I married my best friend … how lucky am I? π

When I met Gerry I thought we were so mature and grown-up … but looking at these photo makes me realize that we were just babies!! π

We’ve been together through short hair …

and facial hair …

And have managed to make each other a priority without losing our sense of self.

We also like to have a lot of fun …

And laughing is sometimes the only way to get through the bumps in the road…

When I was a little girl – I thought I was unlovable – that nobody would ever love the real me. The real me was weird and eccentric and didn’t have blonde leggy looks like a Barbie.
I thought that if I made a list in my mind of what I wanted from a partner … that it would be like a magic trick and *poof* they would appear.
My list wasn’t too tall. All I wanted was someone who was:
-Kind
-Fun
-Funny
-Respectful
-Trustworthy
-Someone who would lift me up and never tear me down
-and most importantly someone who loved the real ME!
Well it took a few years for my magic trick to work but … I got everything on my list in Gerry … plus a whole lot more!

What a wild, weird, wacky life we’ve had so far … I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I love you Gerry! I’ll stop the world and melt with you…
Woot!!
At the end of May I am headed to Toronto (to visit some friends) then to London UK (to visit family) and while I’m in London I’ll be doing a personal appearance on May 27th at SSOV Headquarters better known as VX.
Then I’ll be jetting to NYC (to go shopping at MooShoes) to see The Go-Go’s play a couple of their NY tour dates.
I’m such a jet-setter.ΓΒ π
I’m nervous and excited and nervous and excited … all wrapped up in a package of fear. *laugh* I have a mild phobia of jet-lag. Seriously. Being tired really freaks me out so this flight over to the UK has me in a bit of a tizzy. I know I can take pills or tinctures and all that but none of it squashes the fear of being tired.
I gotta talk to my therapist about this at my next session.ΓΒ π
But I am VERY excited to see my family in London. I haven’t seen them since 1986 when I was a sullen bitchy teenager.
My plan is to spend as much time with my family as I can while I’m there … but if any of you have any “must see” or “must eat” tips for me about London – I am all ears!
Dexter update
Well … Dexter had a “date” with is potential new Daddy and it all went swimmingly.
I think this New Daddy may be the one!! π
He’s a really mellow guy who understands Dexters anxiety issues and Dexter seems really interested in him as well. He was all up in New Daddy’s face during our visit. That kind of attention to another person hasn’t happened since he moved in with us, Dexter is usually focused on me so I consider that a good sign.ΓΒ π
I was all weepy after New Daddy left … but not because I’m worried … more because I know Dexter won’t be with us for much longer.
It’s been really wonderful to be a part in helping transform Dexter from a whirling dervish devil dog to the mellow polite dog he is now. He’s made it through all the anxiousness and stress to the other side and he’s a wonderful dog now.
I will miss him terribly …but I am also looking forward to getting back to my own life. So much of my time has been dedicated to Dexter that a lot of other things have fallen by the wayside. I don’t blog as much. I dropped the Fergus 365. Speaking of Fergus – he’s been really patient and wonderful with Dexter but he is only getting about 40% of my attention right now because Dexter needs so much more assistance/attention.
Also I am leaving town this summer to go to London UK to visit my family and am going to be out of town off and on this summer to see some GG’s shows … so New Daddy coming into our lives right now is perfect timing.
But it ain’t gonna be easy to say good-bye. I’m hoping New Daddy and I can continue to have a relationship and that Dexter can stay a part of our lives.ΓΒ π
Stay tuned!
