Oh my SOY!

Whoops! It’s May 14th and I realized I forgot to blog about the May photo for the 2010 Calendar.

Let’s just start with the dress … it is all kinds of fantastic and I was so sad that it didn’t fit me and I had to send it back to Bettie Page Clothing.

No amount of girdles, spanxs and sucking in could get the tiny waist on the dress to fit me … but that’s the magic of photography …  you don’t need to do up the back of the dress. *laugh*

The “vegan” nameplate earrings were custom made by Brookadelphia and are my fav earrings in the world. Unfortunately one of them broke *sob* I really do need to get a new pair!! 🙂

As most of you know I don’t do soy anymore (because of an intolerance) but I wanted the parody of the “got milk” ads to be seamless and “got rice” or “got hemp” just didn’t work for some reason.

Rudee did a great job on the details of the soy-milk box. If you look closely he put my eyes in the logo and the name of the milk company was changed to “Kramerica”. It still makes me laugh when I look at it.

The recipe this month is for Edamame Hummus and I’m so sad I can’t eat it anymore. It’s one of my all time favourite recipes and I think you should make it today so I can live vicarioulsy through your taste buds. Enjoy!  🙂

You might be interested to know about a diet I’m following to keep IBS symptoms under control. NO SOY, also no apples, onions, garlic and other selected vegetables and fruits. Also no honey, corn syrups etc. The idea of the restrictive diet is to give your bowel time to recover after which, if you want, you can try some of these ingredients again occasionally. It’s s very difficult diet to completely follow if you are a vegan, because it allows no legumes. But nuts are OK. And it might be interesting to consider some other things that might contribute to your problems with soy. The premise of the diet is carbohydrate malabsorption. NO WHEAT!
