migraine

Gerry and I went and saw Grindhouse yesterday (what a fantastic double feature and so much gory fun from start to finish) then came home and collapsed on the couch with a migraine. Not sure if it was from the movie or from something else but it’s the 3rd or 4th migraine I’ve had in the last couple of years. I’ve never had them before that and boy-howdy do they ever suck. I thought I was going to throw up … it hurt so bad.

I woke up today and the migraine was gone but I feel like I’ve had the life drained out of me… I guess migraines suck up a lot of energy.

Anyone else have them? Anyone else suddenly develop them in their late 30’s? Maybe it’s a sign that I’m pre-menopausal??

    Poor you.

Yes. I used to get them all the time. It stopped after Gavin was born. I know your descriptions all to well. I remember how awful they were all to well – exactly as you described them, although I often did throw up. I still live in fear of getting one as soon as I feel a headache coming on. I still get ALOT of headaches, but no migraines.

I can offer you no advice – nothing seemed to work for me except escaping into a completey dark room and trying, trying, trying to sleep so that I could not feel the pain…then taking 1 or 2 days to recover from it.

    poor you

I get migraines (not often) and they do suck a lot. My Mom gets them often very badly and she has prescribed meds for them. 🙁

I get them too. I take a prescription for them now which has helped tremendously. Also, if I can get to a chiropractor when you first feel it coming on, that can help also.

That sucks though, I hope you feel better!

We loved Grindhouse as well! The whole car chase scene was shot in real time, no slowing down the film or special effects – crazy!

I had a few in my 20s but certainly more so in my 30s. Likely because my hormones are all screwed up; plus there’s a family history there too. Mine usually last about 12 – 24 hours. Nothing to do but shut my eyes and lie down.

I swear the second I turned 30 blamo, but they are also hereditary. my father and one of his sisters gets them. However, the second I went vegan, migraines gone. I blame it on dairy. I honestly thing it had something to do with it. My doctor was impressed when I told her I hadn’t had one in 6 months.

And yes they knock you off your feet.

I hope you are feeling better.

I have had them since I was in grade 5 – ick. I now take feverfew – an herb, which turns it from a classic migraine with lights & numbness, to a regular ol headache which soon disappears. You have to get feverfew into your system though – so if you were to take it, take it even when you are not headachey – for a while – so maybe it wouldn’t work for yuo. I know that my triggers are stress & light changes but also food allergies & of course, menstration. There are also pressure points in the base of your skull that help, plus magnesium. good luck

I started getting migraines close to my 30’s also, I am 35 now. I will throw up with them sometimes. I take an over the counter migraine pill if it gets to bad. What it is is a combo of acetaminophen 250mg, aspirin 250mg and caffeine 65mg. It is the only thing that ever helps me get rid of it fast, usually within a couple hours. Although sometimes for some reason I do feel better when I throw up, usually I think that is when I have accidently had MSG in something I ate. I get migraines from the MSG. And sometimes it can come on the next day even. Also chocolate can trigger a headache for me, as well as some nuts, because even though they don’t have the MSG on the label, the facility may not have changed over the spice vats and/or cleaned them well enough so that the peanuts that shouldn’t have it, do! The low sodium are the ones that don’t have MSG. Also my period and hormones do seem to play a role in mine sometimes.
A cold cloth on your forhead and a dark room and sleep will help if you can’t take the medicine. (I was a complete anti medicine taker for many years, in fact I still am, and I will try everything else to get rid of my headache before I take the migrain relief pills. But if you have stuff to do and can’t lay around in a dark room, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Maybe that will work for you. Also try to think if you ate something that might be bringing them on.
    Hope you feel better.

I used to get migraines when I was under a lot of stress, although I have heard that they sometimes creep up on you after the stress has passed. Your body sometimes runs on adrenaline until after the crisis (or the step-up in busy-ness in a busy life) has passed and then once your body realizes things are slowing down a bit, it lets go and succumbs to the flu, a cold or, perhaps in your case, a migraine. Take it easy for the next day or two and take care of yourself. Hugs!

Well I have migraines since I can remember and the only thing that works for me is silence and dark rooms. I can feel then coming and just prepare the scenario for the bating 🙁

Luck and hope it is just a passing matter for you 🙂

i have some pretty killer headaches. if you keep a record of times you get them you might be able to figure out some sort of pattern or cause. i actually went in to have a mri last year because i was having them so often … fortunately nothing showed up! i finally figured out this year the times i get them our always in winter months so apparently i just need to tough it out every year for a few months.

take a vacation to somewhere warm!

    Sorry, migraines suck.

I’ve had them on and off since childhood. What helps for me is dabbing peppermint essential oil on my temples.. it’s tingly and warm, and the smell is nice, too. Other than that, not much else helps but tying somthing around my head and going to sleep.
