Piers Anthony
I read this the other day and was dumbstruck. Piers Anthony gets me … 🙂
“One thing you who had secure or happy childhoods should understand about those of us who did not. We who control our feelings, who avoid conflicts at all costs, or seem to seek them. Who are hypersensitive, self-critical, compulsive, workaholic, and above all survivors. We are not that way from perversity, and we cannot just relax and let it go. We’ve learned to cope in ways you never had to.†― Piers Anthony
NEW STOCK ALERT! Sprout Skincare!!
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of compliments about my skin. I even had a lady stop me in the street and ask me about my skin. She wouldn’t stop talking about how fresh and dewy it looked. She also wouldn’t believe me when I told her I was 44 years old. ha ha.
My secret? Genetics. I’m very lucky because everyone in my family has great skin … but my other secret is Sprout Skincare. I am SO excited to now carry it at Sarah’s Place.
What I love about Sprout (besides it being 100% vegan) is that there are no unnatural ingredients. Skin is our biggest organ and we punish it with our enviorment, chemicals… even tattoos. ha ha. Sprout Cosmetics use all natural ingredients and my skin is so happy because of it. Each product has 5 or less ingredients. No chemicals or fillers. Check out the ingredients of each product HERE.
Here’s my routine. First is the Make-up Remover. It easily removes all my makeup and also moisturizes. Next is the Cleanser. Cleans off any residue and gets my face beautifully clean. Then comes my favourite part. The Exfoliate. I often have little dry patches on my forehead and my chin but since using this product I have had no issues. It’s simple ingredients are good for sensitive skin and leave my face soft and glowing.
After I rinse off my face … I move to the toner. Lots of people skip toner but it’s an absolutely essential step for evening out skin tone and neutralizes PH. After the toner I moisturize with the Cream. You know how lots of lotions and moisturizers leave you needing more, like ten minutes after you put them on? That’s because they use water as a base. Sprout Cream starts with wild-harvested shea butter and my skin LOVES it.
As for the rest of my body … I’ve been using the Body Scrub. Gerry loves it … it leaves my skin … ummm. very … um… deliciously kissable. 🙂 Speaking of kisses – I love love love the lipbalms.
So that’s what I’ve been using on my skin. My other secret is to avoid the sun. Drink lots of water and have a good belly laugh or a good cry at least once a day. Laughing is preferred over crying although I find that a good cry always makes me feel like laughing. 😉
Don’t forget that I ship worldwide so go poke around the store and check out Sprout Cosmetics. I can’t say enough nice things about this product without sounding like a commercial. ha ha.

Banana Island …
I tweeted about this a few days ago …
I’ve gone to Banana Island. 🙂
What the heck is Banana Island? It’s a place you go where you only eat bananas. Yes. You read that correctly. I’ve only been eating bananas for the last 4 days.
WHY? Ha ha. My friend Dan was in town and he was telling me about Banana Island. It’s an effective way to give your gut a break. Bananas are extremely nutritious and because your body is concentrating on only this one superfood – it can relax because it’s only focusing on one item.
The last couple of months have been very hectic for me (moving the shop, etc) and I haven’t been eating well. I’ve been eating a lot of wheat (which I know I should avoid) and not focusing on making the kind of healthy meals I normally do and my guts are pissed. 🙁
So letting my body focus on one superfood (instead of trying to process 1000x different ingredients) seemed like the right thing to do.
I know the thought of eating 24-30 bananas a day sounds difficult but it’s really not. The trick is to eat them when they are ripe. That means spotty.
- A green banana with some yellow is 80% starch and 7% sugar.
- A mostly yellow banana is 25% starch and 65% sugar.
- A spotted and specked banana is 5% starch and 90% sugar.
Starch is significantly harder for the body to digest and break down than sugar. Sugar is digested and assimilated very quickly. (info above via Raw Food Health)

Here’s an example of what a ripe banana should look like.
- Bottom: starting to ripen
- Middle: medium ripe
- Top: ripe enough to make a tasty smoothie or snack

So believe it or not I’ve been eating about 24 bananas a day for the last 3 days!! And I feel great.
How do I get that many bananas into me? I make a smoothie with 6x bananas & water. One banana smoothie for breakfast, lunch and dinner (18 bananas total) and then eat my remaining lot of ripe bananas in between my “meals” as snacks.
I thought it would be difficult but it’s been a breeze. The first day I felt a little wonky because I was leaving too much time in between re-fueling. So I adjusted and now eat bananas anytime I get a tinge of hunger. Plus water. I’m drinking tons of water.
Speaking of water. Here’s what I’ve noticed since I went to Banana Island. My urine is clear. Clear as water. And don’t get me started about my poops. They are AMAZING textbook poops. 🙂 I also haven’t had any digestive issues since I started. Wahoo!
The best part is there are no dishes to wash. Just my blender to rinse out. ha ha.
I don’t recommend this for everyone … do your research before you decide to go to Banana Island and make sure it’s right for you.

I am SO thrilled to announce that Sarah’s Place is now carrying Design Specimen jewelry!! I love love love Christine’s copper vegan necklaces.
Each necklace is hand-crafted in etched copper. The copper has a patina over it and has then been waxed to keep tarnishing down. They are a beautiful way to show your vegan pride!

There’s a great new website called Vegans Are People Too! The website documents conversations with vegans on all topics — illustrating that vegans are more than what they choose not to eat.
